SOUNDS OF... HELEN MINORS
Hello and welcome to Sounds of… a podcast created by Drum and Brass, with the support of Arts Council England, in which we explore the impact of art and music on our lives. In today’s episode Drum and Brass director, Davina Vencatasamy speaks to Dr Helen Minors - one of the contributors to the conference taking place in Leicester on Saturday March 26th and organised by Drum + Brass called Doing Music Differently.
In this conversation we hear Davina and Helen talk about being an ally in the journey towards equality and diversity.
Davina met Helen through the equality, diversity and inclusion in music studies network during lockdown when exploring colonialism in music. Helen is the founder and co-chair of this working group which was set up to drive change and lower barriers to music education. She is a brass instrument player and is passionate about ensuring music is accessible to all. She talks about her latest project, the Women's Musical Leadership Online Network which is one of many projects that she is involved in. Details of her extensive research can be found on her webpage at www.helenminors.com.
